Years ago when i was younger , :) I followed the rac lombard rally , spending cold nights under a blanket
in grizedale forest carpark in my escort rs , waking early to get on the stage for a good position to see my favourite drivers ! I followed them all from Ari Vatanan to Colin MaCrae.
After seeing Colin in a subaru and winning the 1995 world rally championship i knew that i wanted an impreza
and that is why i own my impreza , its the rally pedigree of the car that still appeals to me to this day !
So when i heard that LADS would be having our own stand at knockhill this may to celebrate Colin MaCrae's
20th Anniversary 0f winning the title , I was made up and now looking forward to being part of this Event !
Also later in july LADS are part of the Colin MaCrae weekender Event in Wales another must do Event for me
and my impreza ! So looks like a good year for us in LADS , plenty of events for us to look forward too !

Similar story for me as well Nige. Used to take a week off work with a couple of mates and we used to follow the RAC / Lombard rally around the country. It was a rough week but the buzz of hearing an Audi Quattro in a freezing dark forest stays with me. A Vague noise in the distance, then the driving lamps and then more of that addictive 5 cylinder beauty.

That's definitely where it started for me. The Subaru passion came later but it was on the back of those freezing nights in the forests. LADS made it even more special and even now after Subaru have all but disappeared from the WRC and I am Scoobless, it's still in my system.

    Great memories.

Nice thought to write up your experience Nigel.

My Impreza ownership first began in my 50's but the journey began in my 20's.

My first experience of rallying came from a friend's invitation to attend an RAC stage at Haigh Hall with the Group B beasts. It was truly amazing a dark Winter evening then that distinct sound of Group B cars in the distant, flashes of lights between the tree laden road, incredible speed, acceleration & braking power coupled with amazing skill to keep the beast on the road.

From there the bug bit & I began to travel around the country with my mate to follow many National & International rallies sleeping in the car overnight, being bitten half to death with midges in Scotland & virtually freezing to death in Wales attending the World Championship round.

This subsided over time but I was always interested in rallying keeping a keen eye on British interest.

When I decided to purchase my performance car in my 50's! it had to be the Impreza.

I have loved the Blob, it has been the best car I have ever owned & now I am the proud owner of a tidy STI Type R.

    The journey continues...................................

    Great write up Nige :)

For me, like you Nige and Mick I also took the week off work, with mates driving round in a hired van following the RAC Lombard Rally, those were the days. Hearing the mighty Group B's rumbling through the forests, tearing up the gravel a truly awsome sight, for me in them days it was the Opel Manta 400 that caught my eye and in 1989 I bought my first Manta, 4 more followed including a very nice 1987 Manta GT/E Exclusive Coupe in Dolphin Grey, my pride and joy.

Sadly Group B's were to be no more, but soon followed the WRC in came a young driver named Colin McRae in his Legacy 4x4 Turbo, what a great car, quickly becoming my favorite car, sadly soon to be replaced by something called an Impreza?? with large fog lights on the front bumper, what????? lol this uncertainty soon changed, the rest as they say is history.

I to was there when Colin won the championship, I can still remember the donuts at Chester race course, an amazing site, I still have the footage on my video recorder/tape,,, somewhere in the loft :wondering::)

Like many, I so wanted the new Series McRae LTD Edition in 1996 but couldn't afford one, then in 2002 I realized my dream by buying my first Impreza a mint red UK Turbo 2000,,,, 2 1/2 years later in 2004 changing it to what I still own now, my Impreza P1

Being apart of this club has been one of the most exciting times of my life, doing things and meeting people I would never have met, making friends I would never have made friends with,,, life long friends at that.

    Roll on this years events

    Thank you LADS :)

I can't claim the long involvement with subaru and rallying that other members may have however I have always enjoyed "fast" cars starting with an XR2 and then a MK2 Golf GTI then along came work/children/marriages (plural!) and more sensible means of transport prevailed. Then a number of years ago I used to notice a sound like thunder coming up my road each morning, I would look out to see a green scooby piloted by Scooby Towers and it's fair to say I fell in love with "that" unique rumble. The green monster was replaced with the blue classic that I am now very proud to call my own. I drive with a huge smile on my face and never turn on the stereo so I can listen to the burble and pop all around me. What makes ownership even better is LADS, I look forward to the monthly meetings and had a great time at the 2 Buttertubs I have been on. Long live LADS!

Hopefully the new forum and the ease of now being able to post pics up as easy as you can on FB will help to combat this and bring the members back.

For me FB is a tool for the use of everyone inc family and friends,,,, LADS forum should be to promote and enjoy the marque of Subaru the car we are all supposed to be passionate about, yes use both, but keep YOUR club alive by the use of this forum and website.

i remember the "scooby burble" coming down the road and wanted one but due to insurance being the same price as the car i got an Evo4 instead and then a few years later i got my first scooby impreza turbo 2000 wagon - i've always had doggies ! - so i needed the space and played around with it - did it up and then when things went tits up it got sold :( worst day of my life i ended up with various other cars and then got another scooby non turbo a few years back and went rallying with that and broke it :( and then got another MR2 and now am after another scooby turbo 2000 :)

owning a scoob is all about the spool of the turbo - the dump valve and the burble :) cos its the burble that everyone remembers :)
